Your dream of living over the sea can become a reality soon! A USA-based company is currently constructing futuristic living pods that are about three metres above sea level, and will be eco-friendly and sustainable. By Anushka Goel

You may or may not have imagined owning a home over the sea (and no, we don’t mean the many sea-view apartments that are available in coastal cities), but these are soon set to become a reality. Many revolutionary “living pods”, that come complete with state-of-the-art technology and drones to deliver essentials, are set to hit the market this year, and will be located in Panama.

Built by the Panama-based company, Ocean Builders, these homes have been described as the world’s first eco-restorative homes. They are being constructed in the Linton Bay Marina on the north coast of Panama, and will feature all modern amenities, innovative technology and a lot more. Apart from wireless charging stations and changeable lighting, these pods will also have homeowners wear a smart ring to change lights and play music with just a touch or the wave of their hand, reports add.

At the moment, the company has three models for these living pods – the Seapod, for aquatic living, the GreenPod for land use and the EcoPod, which is their environment-friendly option and is also more affordable. What’s more, this last category of the pod features a rain-collecting roof, a smaller floor plan and huge windows, and can be placed into a container to be shipped wherever the homeowner wants it to be!

The living pods (SeaPods) have a room that houses two people, and use about 1,688 cubic feet of steel tubes filled with air, to allow the homes to float 2.2 metres above the waves. The living pods also feature 55 square feet of panoramic views and 360-degree ocean views.

These homes are designed by Dutch architect Koen Olthuis, and range between USD 2,95,000 (INR 2,35,31,427) and USD 1.5 million (INR 11,96,51,325). According to reports, the company’s long-term goals include creating sustainable homes made from as many natural and eco-conscious materials as possible. “We are planting the SeaPod seed here in Panama, but our eventual goal is to have SeaPod homes in every corner of the ocean, all around the world,” Ocean Builders’ CEO Grant Romundt said in a statement.
