A Shaker Heights man, 18, went to the Beachwood police station to admit that he had left the scene of a crash. Police charged the man with hit-skip and failure to yield when turning.

At 2:55 p.m. Sept. 2, it was reported that a U.S. Postal Service employee was seen dumping a large amount of mail into a recycling bin outside Bryden Elementary School, 25501 Bryden Road.

Police forwarded the matter to the U.S. Postal Inspector’s office.

At 3:20 a.m. Aug. 31, a man, 38, slapped his girlfriend, 33, as the two argued in their apartment. He fled the apartment before police arrived.

The man was also accused of keeping the woman’s 11-year-old daughter in her bedroom against her will.

Police are seeking the suspect on charges of domestic violence, kidnapping and felony fleeing and eluding.

Theft from mail: Fairmount Boulevard

At 1:35 p.m. Aug. 31, a Beachwood woman, 84, reported that a check she had mailed had been stolen, altered and cashed. The check’s amount had been changed before cashing from $100 to $9,000.

At 4:45 p.m. Aug. 31, police arrested two Warrensville Heights women, 19 and 18, for stealing merchandise totaling $124 from Dillard’s at Beachwood Place mall, 26300 Cedar Road.

At 10:30 p.m. Aug. 31, a man, 47, argued with his wife at their home as they discussed her desire to throw away furniture and her belief that his demeanor had changed in recent times.

The woman dropped her glasses during the argument and as she bent down to pick them up, the man allegedly pushed her face into the floor.

Police arrested the man for domestic violence.

Theft from mail: Green Road

At noon Aug. 31, a Shaker Heights man, 52, reported that a check he had mailed at the Beachwood post office, 3659 Green Road, had been stolen, altered and cashed. The check’s amount was changed from $300 to $4,300.15.

Theft of city property: Green Road

At 1:20 a.m. Sept. 1, it was learned that street signs had been stolen from East Groveland and Green roads.

At 12:40 a.m. Sept. 1, an officer stopped a car that was speeding on I-271 southbound. It was subsequently found that the driver, a Cleveland man, 34, was impaired and had an open container of alcohol and marijuana in his car.

Police arrested the man for OVI and additionally charged him with refusing to take a breath test with a prior OVI conviction on his record, for speeding and for the open container.

At 5:10 p.m. Sept. 1, police arrested in the Beachwood Place parking lot two men who had stolen sunglasses valued at a total of $968 from the mall’s Sunglass Hut store. The Cleveland men are ages 42 and 46.

At 3:40 p.m. Sept. 1, it was reported that one of the drivers in a two-car crash that took place on Richmond Road left the scene without sharing information with the other driver.

The driver who drove away, a Shaker Heights man, 18, later went to the Beachwood police station to tell of what he had done. Police charged the man with leaving the scene of an accident and failing to yield when making a turn.

At 3:45 p.m. Sept. 1, police were called to Lee Silsby Compounding Pharmacy, 23865 Mercantile Road, where a woman who had been fired from her job caused a disturbance on her way out. Police told the woman she was banned from returning to the property.

At 2:05 p.m. Sept. 2, a Moreland Hills man, 60, reported that someone had gotten into his locker at Lifetime Fitness, 3850 Richmond Road, and stolen credit cards from his wallet.

The cards were then used in Woodmere and Beachwood to make purchases totaling $56,629.80. Police are investigating.

At 3:55 p.m. Sept. 2, a Beachwood man, 62, reported that someone had accessed his Grubhub account and had four food orders delivered to an address in Canton between Aug. 16-18. The man was charged for three of the orders, totaling $63.59.

At 4:25 a.m. Sept. 4, an officer stopped a car that was weaving and learned that the driver, a Cleveland woman, 35, was intoxicated.

Police charged the woman with OVI, having a blood-alcohol content greater than .08, driving without a license, driving with expired plates and a marked lanes violation.

At 7:55 a.m. Sept. 4, an officer stopped a car that was traveling at a slow speed at Fairmount Boulevard and Richmond Road.

The driver, a Cleveland Heights man, 36, was found to be intoxicated. The man was in possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

Police charged the man with OVI, drug paraphernalia possession, impeding traffic and driving at a slow speed.
