Ah, the 1970s. This sprawling prewar duplex, in a distinguished full-service white-glove cooperative apartment house, lies just a block off Central Park on the Upper East Side and is decked out with some of the most deluxe furnishings and fixtures from that decade of disco and excess. At about 6,000 square feet, the apartment is huge, with a whopping eight bedrooms — very few Manhattan apartments have that many bedrooms — and seven full bathrooms, along with a couple more powder rooms. Asking $12 million, with monthly maintenance charges of $14,500, it’s listed with John Burger at Brown Harris Stevens.

The apartment has a fairly long and complicated history of ownership. The tenth floor flat was jointly purchased by Kim Saperstein, daughter of a Bear Stearns finance guru, and her then-boyfriend, financier Andrew Frankel, in 2011 for $5.1 million. It wasn’t too long before Saperstein and Frankel went their separate ways. Frankel moved out but, according to tax records, held on to a half-share in the flat. (Saperstein moved on to a relationship with Lyor Cohen, though it didn’t last; Frankel is now married to Tom-Brady’s ex, model-turned-actress Bridget Moynihan.)

Saperstein, who has three children with ex Jason Colodne — realty TV watchers will remember him as Bethenny Frankel’s boyfriend on the first season of “Real Housewives of New York,” who was fired from his financier job for appearing on the show — went on to shell out $6.2 million, in 2015, to purchase the apartment directly upstairs. With about $11.5 million invested, not counting the considerable costs to combine the two units, it’s not looking like Saperstein will make much if any profit on the sale.

Throughout, the numerous rooms are spacious and modern, with bright white walls and plenty of light streaming in through large windows. The entrance gallery is a generous 25 by 17 feet, while the 600-plus-square-foot combination living and dining room boast ten foot ceilings.

The living room is dolled up with a fun WOOBAR Nest Chair, which is not from the ’70s but might as well be, and a couple of puffy sofas — the Soriana collection by Afra and Tobia Scarpa, first manufactured by Cassina in the 1970s. The dining room features what appear to be 14 circa-1970s acrylic Les Prismatiques dining chairs, and adding to the ambiance is the striking cantilevered glass staircase to the upper level.

The kitchen is gigantic by Manhattan standards, with premium quality designer appliances and a large table surrounded by more Les Prismatiques chairs for informal meals. Next to the kitchen is a powder room, a staff room with private bath, and the first of the duplex’s two laundry rooms, while the main floor is rounded out by the enormous master suite, which includes two bathrooms and two walk-in closets, one of them a bedroom-sized space with custom built-ins.

Up the glass stairs is a 25-by-27-foot family room with a gas fireplace and a pool table. This level additionally includes half a dozen bedrooms, three of them en suite, and four full baths, as well as an additional laundry room. Other notable features include wide-plank rift-cut oak wood floors, custom lighting, an integrated sound system, and elevator access to both floors.

Anchored by high-end retailers on the ground floor, the stately 11-story red-brick building offers residents full-time doormen and a recently renovated lobby, a state-of-the-art gym, and private storage.

And despite the complicated love lives of the past and present residents, anyone would have to admit the interiors are extremely lust-worthy.
