In the post-pandemic days of all-things virtual and endless researching online, take the opportunity to experience home inspiration and innovation in person this October at two signature events produced by the Home Builders Association of Metro Portland.

Portland Fall Home and Garden Show

The Portland Fall Home & Garden Show returns to the Portland Expo Center on Oct. 7-9. Fall is the perfect time to plan your home improvement project you want to be completed by next spring and summer, and the Portland Fall Home & Garden show is a one-stop shop for all your home and garden needs.

Visit the show to meet with expert remodelers, landscapers and suppliers, gardeners, spa companies, tile and flooring installers, roofers, and more. Touch and feel home products like tile and countertops — maybe even purchase a spa for the colder months just around the corner or perhaps a new Mercedes as an early holiday gift. Artisan booths, design inspiration, garden tips and tricks — whatever you need, the Portland Fall Home & Garden Show is the place to help make your ideas a reality.

Don't miss the California Closets Presentation Stage, where you can hear from guest speakers and expert panels on various topics, including gardening tips and remodeling ideas. Go online (HomeShowPDX.com) for a complete list of activities and information.

Homes of Tomorrow Today Tour

The Homes of Tomorrow Today Tour, presented by Portland General Electric, returns Oct. 14-16 for its second year, featuring homes that showcase the best in sustainable building practices. These dwellings set the benchmark for how future homes will be built by reaching and exceeding environmental demands and buyers' needs. Meet innovative builders leading the way who are advancing energy-efficient yet comfortable, durable, sustainable and cost-competitive homes in our region.

The tour represents a range of strategies for building homes that exceed minimum code requirements and showcases inventive building concepts. Noyes Development Co., Ichijo USA, Stafford Homes & Land, Oregon Homeworks, Marnella Homes, Relevant Buildings, and Tiny Heirloom will showcase varying housing types and technologies, including single-family, townhomes, shipping container homes, and tiny homes.

Cultivate a deeper understanding of available home efficiency and sustainability options in today's housing market. All homes received an Energy Performance Score from Energy Trust of Oregon and will display how they compare to homes built to code or typical existing homes. The lower the score, the better in this case. Some homes will have scores as low as zero, meaning they produce as much energy as they consume annually. Homes on the tour also meet particular certification standards for various industry accreditations, including Earth Advantage's programs.

Learn more about above-code energy performance scores, heat-pump water heaters, high-efficiency heat pumps, solar and solar-ready packages, net zero and net-zero-ready offerings, and additional sustainable-building certifications and designations.
