Unique doesn’t begin to describe this architecturally stunning home built entirely out of shipping containers.

Inspired by Grand Designs Australia, 30 Carver Street in Googong combines raw materials and textures, such as varying timbers, concrete, plywood, steel and rose gold, that catch the eye of everyone who enters this spectacular home.

Built with sustainability in mind, the property’s liveability, practicality and homey atmosphere are impressive.

Verv Property principal agent Jason Roses said the Googong home has a striking façade and is “superb in every detail”.

“From my understanding, this is a first for Googong and Canberra, to have a home built out of shipping containers. I think that’s a real drawcard,” Jason said.

“As you walk through the entrance, the range of different textures featured throughout the property are quite captivating. It’s got nice timber elements, rose gold accents and the original raw steel handles from the shipping containers.”

With a massive 282 sqm of living space and 51.3 sqm of outdoor space, it’s perfect for any family wanting a modern home with a country feel and scenic views.

Built in 2019, the first thing you’ll see when you enter is the beautiful timber staircase that leads to the open living area.

“It feels like a warm family home, but with lots of modern touches,” Jason said.

The elevated two-storey home provides stunning views from the alfresco, living room and master bedroom.

“As the owners were from the country, they wanted to keep their connection with nature, so the views of the mountains of the tree tops are really quite special,” Jason said.

“The owners have spent a lot of time working on the kitchen/living/outdoors spaces to create the perfect outdoor entertaining area. The beautiful four-and-a-half metre ceilings flow out to the covered alfresco area where you can enjoy the captivating views of the mountains.

Inside the home, every convenience has been masterfully executed.

The kitchen features 40 mm custom-made concrete tops, a walk-in pantry, a 900 mm Smeg, free-standing five-burner gas oven/cooktop, push close drawers and cupboards, and custom-built barnyard doors and reconstituted timber feature walls.

“As you go outside, you approach a beautiful alfresco area with pine ceilings and an open fireplace,” Jason said.

“It’s kind of like a modern country home in the heart of Googong.”

Jason said the five-bedroom, two-bathroom home is fitted with great-sized rooms.

“The master bedroom is quite special. The owners have really put a lot of time and emphasis on getting it right,” he said.

“You’ve got a beautiful reconstituted timber feature wall, then what I really love is the ensuite/walk-in robe design. It’s all open and connected.

“As you have a shower, for example, and you dry yourself, directly behind you is the closet, and it’s designed in a high-end modern and tasteful way that I think looks quite beautiful.”

“Downstairs, you’ve got a lovely living space, with three bedrooms, a bathroom and a fully self-contained kitchenette,” Jason said.

“Then upstairs is a space for the homeowners to enjoy, with one bedroom and a little study, which could also be converted to your fifth bedroom.

The home features two bathrooms, a main bathroom, an ensuite and a powder room for guests.

The custom-built master ensuite bathroom includes a double head shower, large double sink vanity, skylight and rose gold features on the tapware and handles.

The main bathroom has a shower/bath wet area and rose gold features on the tapware and handles.

Jason said another big feature is the two entertaining areas and a theatre room.

“Entertaining really comes to mind with this Googong home,” he said.

“The huge tiled terrace is perfect for hosting parties with family and friends as it’s got a built-in BBQ and overlooks the backyard.

“There’s also a built-in projector, which is a nice touch.”

With a spacious backyard, paved area, sandpit and soft fall area for children, the home is perfect for family living.

Other key aspects of the home include a double garage, solar panels, inverter air-conditioning, blanket insulation throughout the walls and Hickory engineered timber flooring throughout the upstairs living area.

Jason said Googong is a highly desirable suburb to live in.

“It’s had a rise in popularity over the last three to five years – there’s a real community feel to Googong.

“It has plenty to offer, such as an aquatic centre, school, parks, walking trails, ovals, and plenty of community events.”
